direction is ample for all purposes its width is less
than is considered desirable and now generally provid-
ed. A clear run of not less than 800 yards in any
direction should be allowed if possible and to obtain
this at Kai Tak it is considered that the additional
strip of land along the Northern boundary shown
coloured green on plan HK1 should be acquired and this
additional area added to the aerodrome after
reclamation and levelling.
Referring to the instructions that I should
agree the disposal of any land surplus to aerodrome
requirements I find that it will not now be possible
to relinquish any of the land that has been acquired.
The suggestion that land would be available for resale
appears to have been based on earlier proposals for a
much smaller aerodrome than is now being provided. The whole of the land resumed from the Reclamation
Company will now be required and in addition the
triangular area to the East of this area should be
reserved as a site for aerodrome buildings while as
indicated above it is considered that an additional
strip of land along the Northern boundary should also
be acquired in order to secure a landing ground of
normal size.
In order that the efficiency of the aerodrome
shall not be reduced in the future it will be necessary
to ensure that buildings are not constructed in its
vicinity to such a height as would interfere with
flying operations. It is considered that in the North East, North and North West sides of the
aerodrome the height of any building within 400 yards
of the boundary should not exceed the height at that
point
